Got Em Parched

You are a woman, the most sought after treasure on this planet, do not let a man lower your value by exaggerating their credentials while comparing you to a fish in a sea. Each one of you are uniquely rare, and only a man that’s willing to rise above the rest and treat you with the highest value deserves to be rewarded with the gift of your undivided attention.

In my teenage years, I was a huge sneaker fiend. Honestly, it's probably where my interest in fashion stemmed from. Somewhere around 19 years old, I slowly transitioned from sneakers to heels and started obsessively collecting those instead. I sold some of my sneakers but obviously kept 5-6 of my favorites, these 10s being one of them. I have been blogging 3 years or so and have yet to do a post wearing Jordans. I'm inspired by many things but have been building looks off of menswear and men's style lately.

Body like a coke bottle

"It’s important to know that however much skin you are revealing, you are never responsible for another person’s inappropriate behavior."

I'm blonde thanks to my sister Alya who is a hair stylist. I always wanted to try blonde hair out, mainly to see if I could pull it off. I love my hair blonde. For those who miss my brown hair, no worries, I'll be a brunette again one of these days. I'm in the works right now with so many projects that I can't say too much about but I'm sure you guys will be excited. I love this article on CNN Headline News where they quoted how I felt about plus size models in the industry. Is June already almost over? This year is going by pretty fast.

Color Crush

“When the past calls, let it go to voicemail, believe me, it has nothing new to say.”

The summer has me wearing brighter colors. I'm still a fan of color blocking even though I don't do it as often as I use to a year or so ago. I've been crushing on orange for so time now so got this tangerine crop top from Addition Elle. For almost every post, I take a piece of my clothing and either alter it or do something wild to make it my own. I took this American Apparel dress, twirled the long sleeves really tight, and then tucked them into each other forming what sort of looks like a belt. I then took a gold necklace and intertwined it between the twirled long sleeves. The result was pretty dope. I've been going through what I call "hair hell". This is the awkward stage where I don't really know what to do with my hair but wait until it grows out to my long bob again.

Baroque Curves

Sometimes I get uninspired and end up sitting in my room for hours watching motivational interviews and speeches to get me going again. I read this post and thought it was inspirational so I had to share it with all of you. I usually do a quote every time I post but this time I'm replacing it with this story.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full.. The students responded with a unanimous ‘yes.’

The professor then produced two Beers from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed..

‘Now,’ said the professor as the laughter subsided, ‘I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things—-your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions—-and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car.. The sand is everything else—-the small stuff.

‘If you put the sand into the jar first,’ he continued, ‘there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Spend time with your children. Spend time with your parents. Visit with grandparents. Take your spouse out to dinner. Take care of the golf balls first—-the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.

Shop & Swap Event Part 2

If anyone wants to shop my closet or simply just to come and meet me, this event is the time to do so! Last year, I hosted for it and it's finally back. It's difficult for me to part ways with some of my clothes, especially the vintage pieces. Living in New York, my space is limited, so there's only so many giant plastic containers I can fill up. It's about that time to get rid of them. I'm going to have some clothes with price tags hanging on a clothing rack and I'll also have a $5 bin where anyone can go through. So really the prices and sizes vary. There are other bloggers (listed on the flyer) that will have different sizes if you don't wear sizes 10-14 like I do. I posted 2 pictures below of items I'm selling. The army green vintage dress and the deep blue one piece I wore on my blog a while back will be 2 items there. Hopefully, I get to meet all of you. I don't do too many events so it'd be ecstatic to meet all of you there. Bring your cameras because we will be taking a shit ton of pictures together. Thanks! Can't wait to see you there. Did I mention open bar? xo

PS: I'll be holding a raffle to win a $200 gift card to boohoo.com! (you guys know boohoo is my favorite!)

Don't Second Guess Yourself

"You can dream something all the way through and what happens with your creativity is it gets blocked by what society says you should do. You always over think yourself. Criticism will bother you but you should be more bothered if there's no criticism. That means you're too safe and nobody cares. They feel invested in a way, like I have a responsibility to them. At the end of the day, I only have responsibility for myself." -Kanye West

I'm thrilled to be in Refinery 29's Month of Style Stars! To even be considered a style star and an influencer in their eyes, means the world. I laughed so hard when they came up with the slang word "slashie" to describe me due to me being a blogger/model/designer. I love that they asked the question "greatest style lesson I've learned". To sum it up I said, if it makes them feel uncomfortable, let them deal with that. It's important that you dress for yourself and focus on what makes you feel good because ultimately, you're the only one you need to impress. Check out my entire Refinery 29 feature!
