“The minute you settle for less than you deserve, you get even less than you settled for” -Maureen Dowd

I've been holding off posting this dress just because I'm so in love with it. It was given to my by my aunt. I love the sound it makes whenever I walk. It's like people know i'm coming in the room from all the beads hitting each other. I want to do something different with my hair. The blonde streak I have in the back is going to be replaced or maybe ill add something...you guys will just have to wait and see =] Lately, I've been contemplating if I should even go to fashion school in New York like originally planned, OR keep blogging as usual, maybe pitch some ideas I have to companies, or maybe move to New York hoping for an internship. I feel like I don't need a fashion degree to accomplish this fashion empire I'm trying to build. You know? Choosing which step I should take from here is difficult. I have success with my followers (hello to all the new ones), and the blogging world, but what's the next step from here?

  5. I think you should get your degree in fashion, just for the learning experience to be honest. If you have the knowledge (and then some) you can really go far.

I do love the dress, reminds of this lace suit (that my mom will not give me). So pretty..

  8. Well seeing your outfits kinda inspired the shear top outfit you commented on. You have this ability to know how to bare skin in just the rite way. Between your inspiration and seeing a few things I wanted (My obsession with fredricks of hollywood, theirs a black one shoulder top that just covers the boobs that I really want to try layering with the shear babydoll) it just had to be done LOL! Anyways, having to decide on what your going to do, well... education is a good thing but its expensive. Unless you know you can afford it and that going will truly benefit you in the long run despite the cost you might want to just do your own thing. One of the reasons I work in retail is because I want to learn from the inside by working how to run a store, I came close to finishing a buisness management degree only to realize I owe money and cant go back and finish till I pay up and that the classes I had to take about actually managing people where things I already knew how to do, I just didn't have real life experience doing it much. Basically my degree would be a waste of time, only helpful thing I needed was accounting and I did badly in that class but managed to help my manager at work with paper work perfectly fine. So my college was a waist, but I should finish anyways cause Im almost done. Why not finish since I wasted all that time on it. Plus their are many people out their who never went to college or if they did go ended up not using their degree in the field they end up successful in. So the question should be, is their a skill set that you don't have or that you need to improve on that would be best attained in a class room? Is the school and its degree going to be a bragging rites type of thing? Is moving something that will get you further in your goals? Will moving put you in a situation where you are surrounded by people who inspire you? Is blogging and what it can lead to the end all be all of your goal or is their more that would be imposable or difficult to attain without expanding beyond blogging?

Hope my long chat helps you figure out what you want to do. If not then sorry. I think Im the most long winded non writer blogger wannabe around LOL.

  9. Beautiful dress girl! Go with your heart. You are young enough to step out on an idea. You will never know unless you try, right. If it doesn't work out you still have plenty of time to go back to school! You are right...you do not need a degree to do well in the fashion industry. Fashion is what you buy in the stores. Style is how you put it together! People's great style is what makes the fashion industry so successful. I contribute to that industry because I can't make my own clothes but that is also why I thrift so much because others can mock you but they can't ever actually have what you have. Thrifted/vintage things are so unique! I think you would be an amazing designer! Kiah

  11. Dress + you = perfection.

I feel the same, trying to figure out if I wanna go back to school, stay home and try to make things pop off here for the time being, move to NYC... Everyday I feel something different.

I literally feel the exact same way girlie! It'll come to you, in time.

  12. Really gorgeous dress. I love all the sparkly beading on such a soft color. I hear you on how difficult it can be to figure out your next step. I was also thinking about fashion school in NYC, now I'm wondering if it's the best move or a waste of time and money...one perk at a school like FIT is the contacts you'll make and connections they give you with insiders in the industry. I'm thinking about graphic design but want to be doing it in the fashion industry, so I'm trying to figure out if studying that at FIT is a better move than saving money and taking graphic design classes elsewhere. Sigh, it is a difficult and complicated decision! Do what you feel is best in your heart!

  14. this dress looks gorgeous on you. I always enjoy dresses that make a little bit of a sound but not too overbearing.

When it comes your goals, I would say for you to pursue gaining an internship or pitching an idea while having your degree on the backburner. Also, it's always best to test drive an idea and see if it works for you. If you gain a positive result or are given an opportunity, jump at making it an reality. As far as school goes, you might not need your degree at all, but it's always best to have your bases covered.

    Hope this helps!

  18. Next Steps: you could take advance orders for those rainbow shorts, get sizes, etc. and make an exclusive limited number, for example, only the first 20 people to order get these. How about a New York fashion tour, thrifting, etc., exclusively for a limited number of people who are willing to help fund the trip and make it possible, for ?? $35 each, maybe six people? You could have a lottery if more than six people sign up. Maybe you could find a tailor who you could work with who could make your designs for a reasonable price, someone you could trust and work well with. And . . .
